Hackers Fight Back against SFTA
San Francisco transit Authority Police used a tactic that was meant to disrupt hooligans from organizing flash mobs by turning off cell sites along their routes to discourage attendance. In response, hackers have flooded the transit authorities web sites with attacks that have disrupted communications to some extent but have turned out to be more than a nuisance than a real threat. Such was the decision of the transit authority after flash mobs were found to be using their mobiles to organize protests similar to the riots that have plagued the UK last week or so.
Such flash mobs is an example of the wrongful use of mobile technology to organize and disrupt the daily rhythm of life in extremely densely populated areas that have been known to cause millions of dollars in lost revenue. From traffic to service disruptions of transit lines, they all amount to losses that the authorities have simply had enough.
